Abstract
427,126. Resilient heels for footwear. JAMES, W. J., 3, The Parade, Mumbles, Swansea, Glamorgan. Nov. 22, 1933, No. 32553. [Class 17 (ii)] A resilient heel of the kind in which a spring is interposed between the sole and tread of the heel, the spring being enclosed in a casing either of thin flexible material or of resilient material, such as sponge rubber of considerable thickness, is characterized in that the spring, or' springs, is or are securely but detachably fixed at each end to an upper and a lower end plate, preferably of leather. In a heel provided with a single spring J, a slightly arched yoke D is inserted between the first and second turns of the spring at each end, and is fixed to the adjacent end plate F by a central screw bolt H, whilst the outer ends of said yoke may be additionally secured to the end plate by nails. The end of the bolt, which is passed through the yoke, may be screwed into the hole in the yoke or may be provided with a nut, as shown. The spring and end plates F are enclosed in a casing C, which may be made of thin flexible material, such as leather, or may be formed of soft sponge rubber filling the space between the spring and the outer surface of the heel. The heel tread G is fixed to the lower plate F by adhesive or other means.
