[Class 46] A filtering partition A, Fig. 1, which slides as a piston in a vessel B, for example a coffeemaker of vitreous or ceramic material, is resiliently and radially deformable over the whole of its periphery in such a way that the deformations are locally limited so that a satisfactory seal is provided with the wall of the vessel. As shown in Fig. 2, the filtering partition comprises perforated discs 1, 2, with an intermediate sheet of gauze 10, which extends outwardly to wrap over a spiral spring 6 the turns of which are threaded through holes in a flange on the disc 1. The discs are held together by a screw 12 which is attached to the piston rod E. In a modified form, the turns a of the'spring are threaded through elongated holes in the disc 1 which in this case is not flanged. Fig. 6 shows another modification in which the spring is composed of a number of separate loops 7b the ends of which are inserted in apertures in the flange of the disc 1<b>. As shown in Fig. 8, each separate loop is arranged vertically. Fig. 9 shows a further modification in which a spring 6<c> is loosely mounted on a core 14 in an annular space between the edges of the discs 1<c>, 2<c >and a flange 16 on the disc 1<c>.
