Abstract

463,000. Spectacles &c. HAWES, A. W., HAWES, E. H., and BRADSHAW, R. H. Nov. 16, 1935, No. 31819. [Class 97 (i)] Each lens of spectacles &c., or the single lens of a monocle, is mounted in a frame which receives and encloses the entire circumferential edge of the lens, and means are provided for locking the lens in position in the frame in such a way that it can be readily unlocked and removed therefrom. In the form shown, the rim of the spectacle frame 2 is formed with a flange 8 and the lens 1 is mounted in a thin false rim 7 which seats against the flange when the lens is in position. The rim 7 is provided with projections 9, 10, the projection 9 being formed by the split ends of the rim and the projection 10 being a plain lug, and the frame is formed with grooves 12, 13 to receive the projections 9, 10, the groove 12 communicating with a slot 14. To fit the lens, the lug 10 is inserted in the groove 13 and the projection 9 is passed through the slot 14 into the groove 12. The lens is then rotated in the frame so that the projections 9, 10 are held in their respective grooves. In another form, the rim 7 is externally threaded and, engages internal threads of the frame. In a further form the rim 7 is provided with hooks adapted, by rotation of the rim, to pass under the heads of screws provided on the frame. A suppressor cup for obturating the sight of one eye may be provided, this cup having projections to enable it to be fitted to the frame in substitution for either of the lenses.
