Abstract

465,540. Valves; cylinders. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and FORSYTH, A. G. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 3001. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In an engine having two inlet and two exhaust valves to each cylinder, the two inlet valves g are arranged on opposite sides of the median longitudinal plane of the engine, as are also the two exhaust valves h, and each pair of inlet and each pair of exhaust valves is actuated by a cross-piece from a single cam shaft, the cylinder block being provided with a single inlet or exhaust passage j or k leading to each pair of inlet or exhaust valves. The inlet passages may be bifurcated as shown. The cross-pieces engage the valve stems and are formed at the centre with stems sliding in guides.
