Abstract
475,619. Baking - pans. STEVENS, A. H. (Ward, R. A., Ward, A. F., Ward, B. M., Ward, H. E., Ward, jun., A. F., Ward, J. A., and Stebbins, G. E.) Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5859. [Class 28 (i)] A number of baking-pans are removably assembled in a frame, in such manner that the pans have a limited vertical and rocking movement to permit them to adjust themselves to inequalities of the oven hearth. As shown, the frame 5 has a height substantially equal to the pans 1 ... 4 and is flared downwardly and outwardly so as to form a skirt around the pans. The bottom edge is beaded at 6 to facilitate the entry of the peel beneath the set, and windows 8 are cut through, walls of the frame to assist ventilation and to provide hand holes for manipulation of the set. Inturned ledges 8a are formed at the bottom edges of the windows 8 to rest on the top of the set of pans next beneath when the sets are stacked. The upper edge of the frame is flanged inwardly and downwardly at 9, this flanged edge overlying and limiting the upward movement of the pans 1 ... 4. The frame is made of four pieces of sheet-metal, one for each side and end, the pieces forming the sides being slit at their ends to form tongues which are bent at right-angles and welded to the end pieces. Cross braces 12 extend across the frame between the pans, each brace being formed front two pieces of sheet-metal spaced apart at their middle portions and brought together and welded near their ends at 13. The ends are bent outwards and welded to the inside of the frame. Struts are positioned between the spaced apart parts of the braces 12. At the inside of each corner of the frame, a bent piece of sheet-metal 16 is welded, the lower parts 19 of which act as stops, similarly to the ledges 8a, when sets are stacked. The upper parts of the pieces 16 support wires 18, of spring steel, which secure the pans in place, the intermediate parts of the wires being supported in holes 21 in the welded parts 13 of the braces 12. A hole 22 is formed in the end wall of frame 5, somewhat above the levels of the holes 21, the wires 18 being withdrawn by bending up their ends into registration with the holes 22 through which they are withdrawn. This renders the pans replaceable in the frame. Bent-over edges 20 of the pans 1 ... 4 engage over the wires 18 so that the pans are supported thereby when the frame is lifted, the pans being free to move between the edges 9, 20. When the set is in use, the pans and the frame rest upon the oven hearth. When it is desired to support the pans out of contact with the hearth, the wires 18 are threaded through upper holes 23.
