Abstract
798,335. Making storage tanks. BIRCH & SON, Ltd., G. March 21, 1957 [March 29, 1956], No. 9805/56. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A liquid storage tank having four walls in opposed pairs, a bottom and a top, is formed by bending one or more metal sheets to form the walls and joining their mating edges together by means of seam joints 12. As shown, two sheets are bent each to form a channel, making up one wall 10 and two halves 11 of the two other opposed walls. The bottom 13, which is fixed in position by a seam joint 14 forms a relatively deep flange 16 to act as a supporting foot. The top is secured in position by a seam joint 18, and has a rim 17 with a square or rectangular opening, the horizontal portion of the rim being below the upper edges of the walls so as to provide a relatively deep flange; the inner edge of the rim is bent down to form a flange 19. The rim 17 may be stamped from a single sheet of metal or it may be made by welding four strips together, and apertures 23 are provided to permit drainage when the tank is galvanized.
