Abstract
695,924. Tanks. DORTMUNDER UNION BRUCKENBAU AKT.-GES. Sept. 12, 1951, No. 21474/51. Class 69(i) A circular-sectioned liquid storage tank has the tank bottom 6 provided with a downward curvature of spherical or, in cross-section, elliptical shape and is loosely seated on a sheet-metal ring 3 inserted in the ground and of nearly the same diameter as the side wall 12. The ring 3 is arranged to project partly above the ground and is filled with ballast 16. The depth of curvature of the bottom at its centre is at least 10 per cent of the tank diameter and the bottom may be joined to the side wall via a ring member 13 or by bending over the outer edge of the bottom and/or the side wall and welding the flanges thus formed. The upper and lower edges of the side walls which are formed of superposed horizontal rings of plates with their vertical seams staggered from one ring to the next, may have a slight inward conical taper. The tank roof is fitted to the side walls in a similar manner to the bottom.
