[Class 75 (ii)] In a vehicle-lamp reflector in which a vertical section through the axis X-X is elliptical at the front 20, and at the rear 19 is such that rays from a light source placed in or close to the posterior focus 12 of the foremost elliptical part are substantially parallel after being reflected by said rear part, as shown in Fig. 2b, a horizontal section through the axis has a portion 21, Fig. 2a, intermediate the foremost and rear parts which illuminates a space between the areas illuminated by the front and rear parts, the horizontal section of the foremost and rear parts is identical with the vertical section thereof, and the vertical section of the intermediate part is such that rays reflected thereby pass through the anterior focus 13 of the foremost elliptical part. In the form shown, the front part 20 is ellipsoidal and the rear part 19 is paraboloidal with its focus at 12, and rays from the side surfaces of the intermediate part 21 converge farther and farther away from the anterior focus 13, as at 18, 22, 23. The three parts of the reflector merge continuously into one another, and the reflector is cut off by a horizontal plane through the common axis X-X. The lamp may be fitted with a shade 37.
