485,997. Stereogrammetric apparatus. ZEISS, C., [Firm of]. Dec. 23, 1937, No. 35580. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 97 (i)] In a binocular viewing-device for stereogrammetric measuring instruments, having in each half a system of reflectors which can be displaced parallel to the base line to enable the instrument to be used either for orthostereoscopic or for pseudo-stereoscopic viewing, there is provided on the object side of each rejector system a lens system which shares the displacements of the reflectors and whose focal length is equal to the distance, measured along the optical axis, between its rear principal point and the image plane of the associated eyepieces. The reflectors, in the form of prisms 16, 17, 18, and 20, 21, 22 and the associated lenses 15,19 are mounted on plates 11,13 having extensions 12,14 engaging right-and-left handed threads 9, 10 on a spindle 7 rotatable by a knob 8. Stops 23, 24, 25 determine the two working positions of the reflector systems. In the position shown an ortho-stereoscopic view is obtained, and by displacing the plates until both extensions 12, 14 abut against the stop 25 the parts are brought into a position in which rays from the reflectors 16, 17, 18 enter the eyepiece 3 and rays from the reflectors 20, 21, 22 enter the eyepiece 2 so that a pseudostereoscopic view is seen.
