510,526. Pistons. WAKE, T. J., and SIMPSON, T. Jan. 31, 1938, No. 3018. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston the skirt is split so as to permit expansion at right angles to the axis of the gudgeon pin and expanded by rings p and e. The head a has integral annular extensions d and f of reduced external diameter on which corresponding parts of the skirt bear. In a modified form the skirt portion has external spaced bearing surfaces which may be annular or disposed longitudinally, whilst the body may be lightened by forming a slipper piston. The split in the skirt may be offset on either side of the plane through the axis of the gudgeon pin.
