Abstract

531,366. Oil engines. PURDAY, H. F. P., MOILER, E., and REBBECK, F. E. July 20, 1939, No. 21050. [Class 7 (iii)] The piston faces of an opposed-piston compression-ignition engine are formed to produce an annular or toroidal combustion chamber AB. One piston face may be flat or have an axial projection to co-operate with the other piston. Liquid fuel is injected through slots F<1>F<1> tangentially either in the direction of, or contrary to a whirling air charge.
