[Class 36] In an electric cable, a conductor is surrounded by layers of synthetic plastic dielectric material, such as polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride mixed with polyisobutylene, containing finely divided insulating material of high permittivity, such as high purity rutile, barium titanate, strontium titanate, beryllium titanate, calcium titanate singly or in combination. By varying the proportions of dispersed material, a considerable range of values of permittivity is obtained, and by this means permittivity grading is effected. The interstices of the cable are filled with nitrogen at a pressure of fourteen atmospheres, and the whole is enclosed in a reinforced sheath of lead or lead alloy.
