Abstract

585,214. Ropes. MATTHEWS, S. E. (Columbian Rope Co.). Dec. 28, 1943, No. 21741. Drawings to Specification. [Class 109] Heavy duty stranded ropes formed from synthetic thermo-plastic materials are subjected to heat treatment in order to eliminate wildness or the tendency to untwist. Preferred materials are Saran and nylon, the latter being produced in accordance with the disclosures of Specifications- 461,236 and 401,237, [both in Group IV]. Saran ropes constructed from strands of monofilaments may be treated in strand form with dry heat at about 110‹F. for about 2 hours, followed by cooling and further treatment in rope form at about 160‹F. for five minutes, preferably in the presence of moisture. Nylon ropes constructed from strands of multi-filament yarns may be treated in rope form only, the treatment consisting of immersion in boiling water for fifteen minutes.
