Abstract

A rope, suitable for use as a "groundrope" in seine-fishing nets, is made up of a plurality of strands, at least one of the strands comprising a metal core with a plurality of yarns comprising filaments of a substantially non-elastic synthetic polymer wound around it. Preferably the rope comprises three such strands and the synthetic polymer yarns are composed of polyolefine, for example a polyethylene. Filaments of natural fibres may be mixed with the filaments of synthetic polymer to give the rope better gripping power. The metal core may be galvanised steel or lead and its purpose is to sink the rope.
