Abstract

588,097. Gas turbine plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and CONSTANT, H. April 22, 1944, No. 7526. [Class 110 (iii)] A gas turbine plant for the jet-propulsion of aircraft comprises H.P. and L.P. turbines 31, 19 respectively, driving H.P. and L.P. compressors 32, 20, the turbines being arranged next to one another and between the air compressors. A reheating combustion chamber 45 is placed between the turbines. The L.P. turbine also drives, through a reduction gear 56, a ducted fan 53 which delivers part of its air to the L.P. compressor and part to a duct 15 leading to an augment or jet. An intercooler 60 is placed in the duct 15 and the turbine exhaust duct 47 leads to a separate propulsion jet. In a modification, there is no intercooler, the turbines discharge into the single duct 15 and the air in the duct is heated by an oil burner.
