Abstract
607,715. Valve spindles. MALTERRE, F. R. Dec. 5, 1946, No. 32926. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1943. [Class 135] A valve operated by a hand wheel 2 having threaded engagement with the casing at 8 and a, central bore through which passes loosely a stem 1 carrying the valve member 14, has a connection between the wheel and the stem in the form of a split resilient ring 3 mounted in a groove in the stem and coacting with a chamfer 6 at the end of the bore in the wheel for imparting upward movement to the valve member, the angle of the chamfer being such that the thrust exerted on the ring 3 does not dislodge the ring from its groove. Rotation of the wheel to produce downward movement thereof produces corresponding movement of the stem 1 through a collar 16. A split resilient ring 10 in a groove in the casing limits the upward movement of the wheel. Chamfers 5, 11 facilitate the mounting of the rings 3, 9 in their grooves, whilst slots 12 are provided for the insertion of a screwdriver for removing the ring 10. The valve stem is sealed by a packing 19. In a modification, external threads are formed on the casing with which an internallythreaded hand wheel co-operates, the ring 10, in this case, being mounted at the lower end of the wheel. The split resilient rings may be of square, rectangular or partly rectangular and partly circular cross-section.
