Abstract
743,690. Pipe joints. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. Dec. 17, 1953 [July 6, 1953], No. 18707 /53. Class 99(1). In a joint in which a sealing and securing ring 18 is compressed on to a pipe 12 by a shoulder 19 in a socket 30 and by the tapered bore 33 of a gland nut 31, the end of the ring engaging the tapered bore has a number of partial slits 24 so arranged that a circular uninterrupted seating 25 at that end of the ring engages the pipe. The shoulder 19 engages an external tapered surface on the other end of the ring, and the pipe engages a shoulder 14 in the socket. The ring when deformed is engaged by a shoulder 32 terminating the tapered bore. The tapered bore may be in the socket and the shoulder 19 may be on the nut. In another form, Fig. 2 (not shown), a cap nut screwing on to the socket contains a thrust ring having a tapered bore.
