Abstract

627,403. Electric heating cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and BEAN, R. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29092. [Class 39(iii)] A heating cable for soil warming, pipe warming, space heating &c. comprises a central wire 1 enclosed in insulating material 2, wire or wires 3 helically wound upon the surface of the said insulation 2 and an outer protective sheath of insulation 4. The wires may all be of high resistance material or alternatively either the core or the helically wound wire or wires may be of highly conductive material such as copper or steel. The insulation may be polyethylene. Two or more of these heating cables may be formed into a multicore cable and a lead sheathing may be applied over any such single or multicore cable. In addition to the said insulation, textile or other fibrous materials may be used around the central wire and alternatively, or in addition, over and, or, under the helically wound wire. The wires of the cables may be electrically connected together at one end.
