Abstract
650,086. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 27, 1948, No. 20021. Convention date, July 28, 1947. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXVII] A transformer is immersed in a liquid dielectric filled tank 31 carrying a hollow porcelain insulator 22 filled with the dielectric, there being a baffle so arranged as to allow normal circulation of the dielectric, but to retard the transmission into the insulator of pressure suddenly occurring in the tank. Before the pressure has passed the baffle it is released by the breakage of a diaphragm closing the end of a tube connected to the tank, Fig. 1 (not shown). The baffle comprises a number of insulating tubes 12 arranged round the conductor 7 passing through the insulator, each tube being closed at its ends by spacers 14, 15 perforated by small holes 16, 17. Screens 13 within the tubes help in favourable distribution of electric field.
