Abstract

665,078. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V., Ltd. Oct. 26, 1950 [Nov. 10, 1949], No. 28803/49. Class 102 (i). A fuel injection pump c of the plunger type, which is supplied with fuel by a diaphragm feed pump a driven through a bell crank lever e from the injection pump cam shaft d, is provided with an additional reciprocating pump i, actuated by the lever e, for withdrawing excess liquid from the cam shaft chamber b. The liquid fuel discharged from the diaphragm pump is allowed to pass, by leakage or otherwise, into the chamber for lubricating the driving mechanism, and any excess liquid therein is sucked through a pipe o, which may be provided at its entrance with an adjustable weir, and is delivered by the plunger i through a pipe p leading to the fuel reservoir. The diaphragm pump is actuated on its delivery stroke by a spring f.
