Abstract
Dichlorobutenes are produced by passing a gaseous stream comprising at least 2 volumes of butadiene and 1 volume of chlorine into a reaction zone, maintained at a temperature in the range 180 DEG to 240 DEG C. and containing a bed of finely-divided contact material such as coke, with a linear velocity sufficient to maintain the finely-divided material in suspension within the reactor, isolating the desired dichlorobutenes and returning unreacted butadiene to the process. The process may be carried out continuously. Specification 513,947 and U.S.A. Specification 2,299,477 are referred to.
