Abstract
Pure titanium is produced by thermally decomposing a gaseous product consisting of TiI4 and TiI3 in the temperature range 1100-1700 DEG C. The gaseous product containing the elemental iodine thus produced is reacted with titanium carbide to form the tetra-iodide. The tetra-iodide is then partly converted to the tri-iodide by contact with metallic titanium. The surface on which deposition takes place is of titanium, tungsten or other suitable metal.ALSO:Pure titanium is produced by thermally decomposing a gaseous product consisting of Ti I4 and Ti I3 in the temperature range 1100-1700 DEG C. The gaseous product containing the elemental iodine thus produced is reacted with titanium carbide to form the tetra-iodide. The tetra-iodide is then partly converted to the tri-iodide by contact with metallic titanium. The surface on which deposition takes place is of titanium, tungsten or other suitable metal.
