Abstract
682,556. Discharge apparatus. CINEMA TELEVISION, Ltd. July 4, 1951 [July 5, 1950], No. 16801/50. Class 39(i) A mounting for a plurality of getters adapted to be fired within a vacuum tube by an electrical current fed to it by conduction from an external source is of such construction that getters can be fired in succession at any. desired time intervals by suitable control of the current. The mounting may comprise a ring 1 to which one end of the getter wires 4-9 are connected, the other ends of the getters being connected to a support 3 which is provided with a lead extending through the envelope. A further support provided with a lead extending through the envelope is connected to the ring at point B. The resistance of an arc of the ring between two getter wires is about half the resistance of a getter wire, so that on the application of a current to the two external leads the wire 4 is heated more than the other getter wires; it may be heated until it fires. and then further heated until it fuses. After the wire 4 has fused the wire 5 may be fired and fused in the same manner, and so on until all the getter wires have been fired. The mounting may be arranged in the neck of a cathode ray tube or in a projecting stem mounted on the bulb of a cathode ray tube.
