Abstract
The sealing faces of valve cones are armoured with preformed rings of alloys having high contents of chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, silicon, nickel, cobalt &c., and applied by electric resistance welding. A suitable composition of alloy is: 0.10-1.0 per cent carbon, preferably 0.4-0.6 per cent; 2.0-6.0 per cent silicon, preferably 3.0-4.0 per cent; 010-2.0 per cent manganese; 10.0-20.0 per cent chromium; 50.0-80.0 per cent nickel; remainder, iron with impurities such as phosphorus and sulphur.
