Abstract

An alloy containing 0.1-1.0 per cent carbon preferably 0.4-0.6 per cent. 2.0-6.0 per cent. silica preferably 3.0-4.0 per cent. 0.1-2.0 per cent. manganese 10.0-20.0 per cent. chromium 50.0-80.0 per cent. nickel, remainder iron with impurities of sulphur and phosphorus is applied as a ring to a valve cone and heated to pressure welding temperature or melted by induction heating to form a protective layer thereon.
