Abstract

732,407. Two-part couplings. ELCON MANUFACTURING CO. May 5, 1953 [May 17, 1952], No. 12447/53. Class 38 (1). A resilient contact comprises a number of individual, circularly-arranged wires 12 extending helically from a base 11 having an aperture in which they are secured by a plug 23 and solder. Surrounding the wires in positioning notches are a number of constricting coil springs 14, and a short plug 13 is arranged inside the socket in abutment with plug 23 to limit the inward movement of the wires. To prevent over-expansion of the wires, their outer ends 25 are bent over outwardly so as to overlap adjacent wires with which they interlock when the socket has reached a predetermined expansion. Fig. 6 shows a double-ended socket contact constructed as above except that both ends 25a of the wires are turned outwardly and the centre of the socket is secured round a plug 23a in a base 11a, plugs 13a abutting the plug 23a.
