Abstract

785,821. Paper and like bags: packaging. BERGHGRACHT, M. May 12, 1953 [May 12, 1952], No. 13267/53. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). A gussetted bag having a transverse bottom seal 14 and additional creases 6, 7, whereby when opened out the bag has a square bottom, is formed of paper which may be laminated with one or more sheets of other material, which is partially or completely covered or impregnated with a thermoplastic lacquer, preferably on the side forming the inner wall of the bag, which is stated to provide properties such that preformed score lines permit ready folding of the bag. The bag is formed from a blank having flaps 10 and 8 but these flaps may be dispensed with. When the bag is used for vacuum conditioning of the contents, perforations 16 are provided and the upper edges of the bag are sealed together leaving the perforations free. The package is placed in a vacuum enclosure and the flap 10 is automatically drawn against the perforations when the package is withdrawn, and is then heat-sealed. The bags can be used for packing solid products in a gaseous medium, e.g. nitrogen, hydrogen, or helium.
