Abstract

790,109. Pipe couplings. EISENWERKE, F. W. DUKER AKT.-GES. Nov. 12, 1956, No. 34573/56. Class 99(1). Pipes 1, 2 are connected by a sleeve divided longitudinally into two parts 3, 4 having externally threaded conical or frusto-conical projections 5, 6, a clamping member 7 screwing on to each pair of projections to secure the parts together and to compress a rubber &c. packing 9 which encircles the pipe ends and is housed within the sleeve. The sleeve is provided with annular grooves 10 and a closed groove 11 at the joint to allow insertion of the packing. The shaped packing member 9 is divided through the longitudinal strip 14 so that it may be arranged about the pipes or alternatively may be produced as a plane member and then bent around the pipes to give the strips 15 an annular shape. In modifications, Fig. 3, (not shown), the sleeve parts may have a housing to allow branch conduits to be connected to the pipe or to use the appliance as a valve boring box, and in Fig. 5 (not shown), the shaped rubber member may have its line of division in the annular strips which may extend approximately tangentially to the annular surfaces and engage with a tongued and grooved fit so as to provide a large sealing surface between the ends and to prevent lateral displacement respectively.
