Abstract

843,094. Valves. LEE, H. Dec. 11, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 26076/55. Class 135. In a valve for use with gases comprising a frusto-conical casing 1 with an inlet and an outlet one of which has an extension 3 projecting axially of the casing, a diaphragm 9 of greater diameter than the open end of the casing a projection 10 on the diaphragm adapted to seat on the open end of the extension, and means for operating the diaphragm, the diaphragm is clamped in gas-tight manner on the valve casing, by means of a ring 5 having the same internal taper as the external taper of the casing and retained by the open end of the casing, the ring being connected to a corresponding flange 8 on a cover surrounding the diaphragm and its actuating means. The extension 3 is supported by an axially disposed pillar 4. The diaphragm may be made of silicone rubber, a fluorocarbon rubber or polytetrafluoroethylene and the casing of glass. The ring 5 has an annular recess 6 to receive a gasket 7 having an internal diameter slightly less than the external diameter of the casing. The diaphragm as shown is operated by a screwed spindle 11 actuated by a wheel 12, and the ring 5 and flange 8 are connected by nuts 14 and bolts 13.
