Abstract

Compositions of polyethylene and/or a copolymer of ethylene with other olefines, with powdered coke as a filler are used for moulding. Polyethylenes prepared by the high pressure, or low pressure Ziegler process, and copolymers thereof with, for example, low-pressure polypropylene may be used. Up to 60% of coke, which may be from coal, petroleum or pitch and be ground to pass a screen of 6400-900 meshes per square cm. may be used, together with additional fillers such as silicates, barytes or chalk. The products e.g. tubes or plates may be moulded at below 140 DEG C.
