862,166. Valves. GASKELL & CHAMBERS Ltd., [trading as NON-DRIP MEASURE CO.]. April 9, 1959 [May 13, 1958], No. 15352/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XVIII] An air inlet valve in a liquid measuring device comprising a measuring chamber 1 having an inlet 2 connected to the neck of an inverted bottle and controlled by a valve plate 5 interconnected with a hollow delivery stem 3 having laterally extending arms 4 engageable with the rim of a receptacle, comprises a tubular valve member 7 slid ably mounted in an aperture in the cover 14 of the measuring chamber. The valve member 7 open at its lower end and closed at its upper end by a head 16 which may be coned to engage a conical seating or formed with a recess to receive a resilient sealing washer 18 is formed adjacent its ends with ports 15. The valve member 7 which is loaded by a spring 8 is engageable by the flange 6 of an extension 13 of the delivery stem between which extension and stem is clamped a valve closure member 12. On engagement of the arms 4 by the rim of the receptacle, the hollow stem 3, extension 13 and valve plate 5 are moved upwardly to first close the inlet 2 and thereafter move the flange 6 relatively to the valve plate 5 to engage the lower ends of air inlet valve members 7, several of which may be fitted, to open the upper ports 15. Air admitted through ports 9, 20 to a chamber 23 in the cover 14 then passes through the valve members 7 to the measuring chamber 1 whence liquid is discharged through the delivery stem 3 to the receptacle.
