Abstract
863,987. Cable end sleeves. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 11, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 38682/57. Class 36. A termination for a fluid-cooled cable comprises an insulating casing 9 supporting two spacedapart conductive members 7 and 8 between which extends a helix of insulating tubing 17, one of the members 8 being adapted to receive the cable conductors 3, and to couple the cable fluid duct 2 to one end of the tubing 17 and the other member 7 having a coupling 19 for feeding fluid, e.g. water, to the other end of the tubing. The casing 9 is a porcelain cylinder, and the cable, which may be armoured, is sealed through one end-member 7 by a gland 11, the insulation being terminated at a second gland 13. The other end member 8 is provided with an annular connection assembly 16 and 12 into which the cable conductor and fluid duct are sealed and which terminates outside the casing in a terminal 22. A fluid connecting chamber 21 formed on member 8 communicates with the end 20 of tube 17. The interior of the casing may be filled with oil or compound by means of opening 24 and a stress-shield 23 provided. Specification 859,443 is referred to.
