Abstract

914,498. Sleeve couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 28381/60. Class 38 (1). A connector for jointing coaxial cables comprises a metal sleeve 5 in which is secured a coaxial conductor 2 with its middle part insulated from the sleeve by dielectric material 4 and its tubular ends serving as socket contacts for cable central conductors, each end of the sleeve 5 serving as a socket contact for a cable outer conductor and the cable conductors and/or the internal surfaces 3 and 6 of the inner and outer sockets being coated with a low melting- point solder. To effect connection heat may be applied either directly to the cable connector sheath or through a collar of mouldable thermoplastic material or a few turns of mouldable thermoplastic tape around the cable sheath. If the connector has a bare outer surface steel tape wrappings around the outer conductors of the cables may be attached to it. A polyethylene sleeve around the bare connector is then moulded at each end to the cable sheath.
