Abstract
867,869. Plate heat exchangers. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. June 11, 1958 [June 14, 1957], No. 18926/57. Class 64(3) [Also in Group XXII] In a plate heat exchanger 10 which is disposed inside a tubular casing 16 and is fed with the fluids which are to be in heat exchange relationship between adjacent pairs of plates through the pipes 13, the individual plates 11 are rectangular and have parallel straight corrugations 26a extending at an acute angle preferably 45 degrees, to their longitudinal axes. Adjacent plates are stacked so that their corrugations extend substantially at right angles and each plate has ports 21a, 22a, 23a and 24a pairs of which e.g. 21a and 24a are formed in raised parts 25a of the plate so that when two plates are put together with their corrugations in contact the raised parts of the plates also come into contact so that the ports form a by-pass hole for the fluid which is not circulating between these plates. Two slightly different sets of plates are required in the above example but by arranging the raised parts on the same side of the plate a single set of similar plates suffice.
