Abstract

869,203. Steering trailers. PETRANEK, J. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 21, 1957], No. 5798/58. Classes 79(2) and 79(5). The axles 1, 2 of a trailer or semi-trailer are driven from the engine 10 of a tractor and are also steered so that they turn on the same arc as that followed by the driving wheels 12 of the tractor. Turntable steering may be provided on the axle 1 and stub axle steering on the axle 2, both axles being provided with a differential gear 7, 7<SP>1</SP> connected by shafts and universal joints 5, 5<SP>1</SP> with a differential gear 4 on the axle 12. The invention may be applied to a semi-trailer having turntable or stub axle steering connected to a pin rigidly mounted on or over the axle 12. Power take-off may be provided from the prime mover or from the transmission of the tractor.
