[Also in Group X] In a spiral staircase comprising steps 1 having tubular portions 3 threaded on to a central vertical post 4, separate railing elements 6 serve to fix the steps in angular relationship with respect to one another. Each rail 6 comprises an L-shaped tube with threaded ends 8, 11 for securing it to an adjacent rail and an adjacent step respectively. The end 11 passes through a spacer tube 5 extending downwardly from one corner of the associated tread and through a hole 12 in the opposite corner of the next tread. An additional bar serves to support the handrail section. In a modification the bar 7 is omitted and two rails 6 are provided for each step.
