898,280. Mixing pulverulent materials SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. March 27, 1961. No. 11086/61. Class 86. In a method of and apparatus for homogenising pulverulent material contained in a silo having a porous floor through which aerating gas is supplied, only a diametral strip 3, Fig. 3, is fluidized while contiguous zones 2, 2<SP>1</SP> on either side are aerated to a lesser degree. The materials in the zone 3 rise and spill over on to those in the zones 2, 2<SP>1</SP> producing a constant circulation. Relatively small side zones 6, 6<SP>1</SP> may also be fluidized in order to avoid the formation of dead zones of unmixed materials. A pipe 10 supplies fluidizing air and a pipe 11 air at a lower pressure. The strip 3 may be constructed as a trough, Fig. 1, extending across the silo and sloping towards an outlet 5, Fig. 3, or from the centre towards outlets on each side. The side sections 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, 6, 6<SP>1</SP> slope towards the centre section 3. The aerating zones may be further sub-divided, see Fig. 4 (not shown).
