Abstract
921,720. Bearings. SEPARATOR A. B. June 8, 1960 [June 8, 1959], No. 20105/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] In a bearing for a shaft 1, a resilient damping member is located intermediate a frame 2 and a sleeve 3; the damping member has one or more projections which increase the damping effect when relatively great oscillations of the shaft 1 occur. In an embodiment the damping member 4, Fig. 1, is keyed to the frame 2 and the sleeve 3 at 5 and 7 respectively and has a projection 6 extending therebetween. The projection 6, which engages the periphery of the sleeve 3, also engages the inner bore 8 of the frame 2 during increased oscillations of the shaft. In another embodiment, a cylindricalshaped damping member 10 is held between flanges 11, 12 of the sleeve 3 and has flanges 13, 14 and 15 engaging the frame 2. An outwardlydirected projection 18 of the member 10 engages the frame 2 when great oscillations of the shaft occur. The damping effect is increased by an axial recess 16 in the member 10. In other embodiments described in the Specification, the member 10 has an inwardly-directed projection engageable with the sleeve; has additional flanges and recesses; has a projection which is an insertion of harder material; and has a projection which is castellated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 830,957.
