Abstract
964,904. Electric immersion heaters. POWER FREQUENCY HEATING Ltd. March 30, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12546/61. Heading H5H. The heating element 1 of an electric immersion heater is in the form of an elongated U which is wound into a spiral and can thus by turning be inserted through an opening, e.g. in the cylinder block of an I.C. engine, the diameter of which is small in comparison with the overall dimensions of the element, provided that the maximum transverse dimension 6 of the U is less than the diameter of the opening. The element 1 may be a single length of sheathed or coated heating element bent double with the free ends 3 and 4 passing through a threaded mounting union 2, or may be two lengths connected together at one end. The two legs of the U may be encased in a single sheath or coating. The spiral may be flat, cylindrical or conical (as shown). The element may be inverted in a shallow cavity (Fig. 3, not shown), so that it is held against a wall opposite the opening by its own resilience, thus minimizing vibration.
