[Also in Divisions B6, B8 and G5] A badge, sign, nameplate, plaque or other ornamental article comprises a section of sheet material 8, Fig. 5, bearing a design 11 and mounted on a resilient backing material 12, e.g. polyester foam and sealed within an envelope 13, 16, Fig. 8, of thermoplastic sheet material, e.g. P.V.C., the front face of the envelope being transparent and adherent to a smooth surface such as glass and the rear face of the envelope being provided with an adhesive coating covered by a removable protective backing 15. The design 11 is effected by a half-tone or line printing block having a design reproduced in a photo engraving process. In making the badge &c., the section of sheet material 8 with its resilient backing 12 is sandwiched between two sheets 13, 16 of P.V.C., which are welded together and cut adjacent the edges of the section, the protective backing sheet 15 being subsequently cut to conform with the shape of the envelope. Parts of the design may be tinted by dyes prepared by dissolving cellulose lacquer pigments in a solvent of amylacetate. The ornamental article may comprise a door finger plate or light switch cover.
