Abstract

The wobble cone piston engine transforms the reciprocating piston movement into a rotary one. It has a rotary shaft (A) running in two bearings only and to which is fixed a flange containing an eccentric cylindrical drilling. Into the latter there fits, by means of a rocking bearing, the apex of the cone (C), which rocks about two axes (B F) at right angles to each other. One or more connecting rods from pistons working in cylinders parallel to the shaft axis are coupled to the cone at points (G) spaced round the periphery of the large end of the cone. All bearings, apart from those of the shaft, are of the rocking type, and since the connecting rods only deflect slightly from the respective centre lines of the cylinders, side thrust and wear on the latter is low.
