SANITARY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Application filed October 19, 1917.
a citizen of; the United States, residing at Palouse, in the countyof Whitman and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Drinking-Fountains; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of'the invention, such as will-enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to sanitarydrinking fountains, and more particularly relates to drinking nozzles therefor. One of the objects of this invention 1s to produce a drinking nozzle that is thoroughly sanitary and so constructed that a number of persons can convenlently drlnk therefrom at one time. 4
Another object of this invention 18 to provide the nozzle with a plurallty of streams directed in such a manner so that none of the water ejected therefrom will flow back upon the nozzle either from the mouth of the person or otherwise and which streams will flow continuously outwardly from the nozzle vand fall within the waste bowl or basin of the drinking fountain and at a point remote from the nozzle.
Another object of this invention 1s to produce a drinking nozzle of this character which is simple in construction, efficient and durable, cheap to manufacture, and whlch can be readily attached to any of the drinking fountains now in use and supplant the drinking nozzles now commonly employed.
In the drawings forming part of this application:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the drinking fountain, showing the drinking nozzle in applied operative position.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View through the nozzle, showing the detail construction thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes the stand of the drinking fountain and 2 the waste bowl suitably mounted upon the stand 1, the fountain being supplied with the usual supply and waste pipes.
The drinking nozzle or head comprises the ferrule or union 3 provided with the internal threads 1 adapted to be secured upon the upper threaded end of the supply pipe of the fountain. lpon the upper end of the union 3 and surrounding the opening there- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 197,487.
through is the annular shell or projection 5'and projecting from the upper outer edge of the union 3 is the outwardly and upwardly curved annular wall 6 to provide an annular trough or seat between the wall 6 and the outer wall of the annular shell or projection 5. lVithin the annular seat or trough thus formed is secured by the inwardly and downwardly projecting annular flange 7 formed upon the upper edge of the wall 6, the enlarged outer annular rib 8 upon the base 9 of the hollow head 10, the inner Wall of the base 9 being formed with the annular recess 11 for the reception of the annular shell or projection 5 of the union 3. Upon the upper rounded wall of the hollow head 10 are formed the plurality of out-- material, and formed substantially dome or similar shaped to provide smooth uninterrupted outer-surfaces. The nibs or nozzles 12 are so formed upon the upper portion of the dome shaped head 10 that the nozzles 12 and their ports 13 will be deflected or inclined at an angle above a horizontal plane at substantially twenty-three degrees, so that the water through the supply pipe of the fountain will enter the head 10 and be projected through the ports 13 of the nozzles 12 and issue therefrom at such an angle that the water will be discharged against the inner wall of the bowl 2 at a point so remote from the head 10 and any of its nozzles 12 that all danger of any of the Water being cast baekwardly upon the head 10 or the nozzles 12 from the mouth of the user of the fountain is eliminated in an eflicient fountain, of a globular head for said fountain, and a plurality of nozzles upon said head and disposed at an angle to the vertical axis of the head for delivering the water discharged therefrom into said bowl at a point beyond said head.' I
2. In a device of the character specified, the combination with-the bowl of a drinking fountain, a supply pipe therefor, of a dome shaped head provided with radiating apertures in its upper portion and with a securing flange at its lower portion for mounting said head upon said supply pipeand Within said bowl, and a plurality of nozzles upon said head disposed at and radiating upwardly from the vertical axis thereof and communicating with said apertures for delivering the water discharged therefrom into said bowl at a point beyond said head.
3. In a device of the character specified, the combination with the bowl of a drinking fountain, a supply pipe therefor, of a dome shaped head formed with a securing flange at its base, a union for securing said head upon said supply pipe and provided .with a trough for receiving said flange, and a plurality of integral upwardly inclined nozzles radiating from the vertical axis of said head for delivering the water discharged therefrom into said bowl at a point beyond said head.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
