Umbrella Handles.
N0. 137,233, I PatentedMarch25,l873
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
ABRAHAM OBERNDORF, JR, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN UMBRELLA-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.137,233, dated March 25, 187 3.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM ()BERNDORF, Jr., of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Umbrella or Parasol Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view; and Fig. 2 is an elevation, partly in section.
The invention consists in providing the lower end of an umbrella-handle with means whereby it may be hung from the vest-pocket or other part of the person, as hereinafter fully de-' scribed and subsequently pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, A represents the lower portion of an umbrella-handle, on which is placed 1 the ring B, having a small plate, rod, or spring,
0, extending a short distance on the handle.
When the umbrella is shut and reversed, this rod, plate, spring, or holder can be conveniently slipped into the vest-pocket or other suitable place, while the umbrella itself is thus attached to and pendent from the person. In a store or other locality an individual is often liable to lose his umbrella by placing it out of his hand, and then forgetting it, or having it stolen. This is effectually guarded against and prevented by the holder.
In order to remove the latter out of the way when not in use I employ the sleeve 1), pro- If a plate of any form or any ornamental device is preferred, I sometimes make a hook on one end of the plate, and attach the other end by a chain to the parasol-handle, or to a ring that surrounds it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The ring B provided with the projecting plate 0, and both applied to the portion A of an umbrella or parasol handle, as and for the purpose described.
2. The loose rotary ring D having open slot d, and applied to a recess in the portion A of an umbrella or parasol handle, to hold the plate 0 at the time, in the manner, and for the purpose set forth.
A. OBERNDORF, JR.
