JESSE EDWIN GROSS, 0F FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO WALTER F. ROSEN- WINKEL, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA,
TABLE ATTACHIVIENT FOR AUTOMOBILES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn EDWIN Gross,
.a citizen of the United States of America,
and resident of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Table Attachments for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in table attachments for automobiles and is intended especially to be positioned in the tonneau and secured in supported connection with the robe-rail that usually extends from the back of the front seat. The object of the invention is to provide a table that may be folded up into compact form, and when in usemay be rigidly positloned 1n the tonneau of an automobile and the roberail utilized as a support therefor. Another object of the invention is to so construct the table that it will be equally applicable for connection with a rope or chain that is sometimes employed for suspending a robe in automobiles, as well as a robe-rail.
The objects of the invention are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings 1n wh1ch:
Fig. 1 1s a side elevation of a table embodying the invention and including a roberail to which it is attached, the roberail being in section; and
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the table in folded position.
The characters .of reference hereinafter appearing have reference to the part designated on the drawings by similar char acters:
The invention consists of a table co1n prised of a top proper 1, .to one side of which is secured a folding leaf 2 by means of hinges 3 that admit of-the leaf being swung so as to fold under the top proper. To the underside of the top proper, near the side thereof opposite the leaf is secureda folding support 4 by means of hinges 5,
the support being arranged parallel with' the side of the top. lin the lower edge of the support 4 is a ti-shaped groove 6, and at each end of the support adjacent the top is an extension 7 in which is secured an eye 8 and corresponding hook 9. Also the Specification of Letters Patent. Patentad J 10 1922.

support has on its ide opposite its hinges a hook 10 adapted to engage in an eye 11 secured to the top '1 and hold the support 4 1n erect position.
To the underside of the top proper is pivoted a beam 12, 'by means of a screw 1?), that is adapted to be turned upon its p1vot so as to extend out beneath the leaf 2 when the latter is in extended position and support the same. To the outer end of the beam 12 is secured a folding leg 14 by means of a hinge 15, the leg being adapted to be folded flat against the bottom of the beam. Theleg has movably arranged therein an extension leg 16 adapted'to be held in adjusted positlons by a thumb-screw 17 in the leg 14. The inner end of the beam 12 has a slot 18 made therein for the reception of the projecting thumb-screw 17 when the leg 14 is in folded position to admit of the leg being folded flat against the beam;
In Fig. 1 the table is shown erected with the support 4 positioned upon the robe-rail 19 which is horizontally disposed and which is fixedly positioned in the rear of the front seat 20 upon the usual brackets 21, the rail extending partially in the groove 6 of the support, and the hooks 9 holding the rail and support 4 detachably together. The beam 12 is positioned so as to support the leaf 2 in the plane of the top 1, and the leg is positioned for supporting the bottom so that the table is held horizontally for use.
In Fig. 2 the beam 12 is turned lengthwise so as to admit of the support 4 and leaf 2 being folded flat against the underside of porting member secured to the underside of the top near the side thereof opposite the leaf and having means in connection therewith for detachably securing it to the roberail of an automobile; a beam having pivotal connection with the top beneath the under side thereof adapted to be positioned so a to support the leaf in the plane of the top; and a folding leg in connection top in erect position; and folding means in 10 with the beam for its support. connection with the" top for supporting the 2.
