This invention relates to improvements in swaddling cloths and has for one of its objects to provide an improved device'of simple and practical construction designed to re- 5 place the diapers ordinarily employed for mfants.

Another object is the provision of a swaddling cloth which may be easily and quickly adj usted in vposition without the use of safety pins and which will be securely held in proper position on the body of a child.

The above and other objects will "appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in .connectionwith the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the swaddling cloth constructed in accordance with the invention; and

Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the cloth in adjusted position.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 3 indicates generally the body of cloth which may be made from a single piece of any suitable material and in any desired size. The body is cut to form front and back sections 4 and 5 and an intermediate or crotch section 6 which is disposed between the legs of the child when in position on the body. The intermediate section is preferably reduced in width as compared to the front and back sections and this is accomplished by cutting the material along'its longitudinal edges on inwardly curved lines so that the front and back sections will taper inwardly toward the section 6. The ends of the body 3 forming the outer ends of the sections 4 and 5 are cut on outwardly curved lines so 40 that said sections will adequately cover the stomach and lower portion of the back of the child.

Secured to the inner surface of the body 3 in any suitable manner is an-absorbent pad 55 13 of towel cloth or other soft material This pad extends longitudinally of the body 3 and practically covers the intermediate section 6, it being made in any suitable shape best suited for its purpose.

In practice, the front section 4 is first laid upon the stomach of the child in proper position and the ribbon 7 is then extended around the back, passed through the slot 11 in the opposite corner of the section, and then brought to the front. The ribbon 8 is simply extended around the back and to the front where it is tied to the ribbon 7 over the stomach. The intermediate section. 6 is then passed between the legs, and the back section 5then brought upwardly to partially cover the back. The corners of said back section are then drawn forwardly over the stomach after which the ribbon 9 is extended through the slot 12 and rearwardly over the outer surface of said section. Ribbon 10 is then passed about the section 5 in a direc- I tion opposite from the ribbon 9 and around toward the back where it meets the latter ribbon and the two ends are then tied to-' 30 gether. The operation is now completed and the cloth is, in this manner, secured in position and will not slip down on the body or legs of the child as is so often the case with the ordinary diapers.

What is claimed is:

A swaddling cloth including tapered front and back sections, the outer ends of which are cut on outwardly curved lines, an intermediate section connecting the front and 9 extending through the slot adjacent the opposite corner of said section around the body of a child in one direction, and the other element of each section being extensible about the body in mop osite direction and secured to the first name element of said section.
