IMPROVEMENT IN METHODS OF SECURING LOOPS AND STUDS T0 SUSPENDEIi-ENDS AND OTHER ARTICLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,792, dated December l0, 1878; application filed September 5, 1878.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN P. LINDSAY, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Method of Securing the Loops and Studs to the Webbing of Garment-Supporters5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view, illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a side View, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.

This invention relates to an improved method of securing the loops and studs to the webbing of garment-supporters, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawing, A represents the stud or button, which is provided with a double-slotted base-plate, B. The webbing O is passed through the slots in the plate B, and the end a folded under, as shown. The body of the webbing is now turned under the base-plate or buttonstud, and secured to the turned-under end by stitching d, which keeps the button or stud firmly and safely in position.

A stud constructed differently from the one shown and described may be used.

My invention consists in turning the body of the webbing under a loop or stud, substantially as shown, so as to prevent its contact with the skin of the wearer.

The loop D is attached to the holding-strap O by a separate and independent strip, E, of flexible or other suitable material, which is simply passed through the slot in the loop, or doubled over and secured to the holdingstrap by stitching. This construction absolutely prevents the metallic parts of the button, stud, prongs. or loop from coming in contact with the skin of the wearer, thereby preventing diseases of the skin, and other inconveniences which are otherwise liable to arise; besides, great strength and durability are gained.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States A garmentsuspender or supporter, with its lower or one end doubled and passed through the lower loop of the securing-plate of the button A, and thence in under the said plate between it and the supporter, and finally out through the other loop of said plate, after which it is fastened to itself, as shown and described, for the purpose of intercepting the contact of the button or its securingplate with the skin of the wearer, as set forth.
