(Cl. 2--56) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dress shields or perspiration pads to protect dresses and other garments from underarm perspiration and body odor.

More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved inexpensive dress shield which can be simply and easily inserted in any dress or other garment without sewing and without any special fastener structure in the garment and which can be discarded after use.

As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the dress shield of absorbent paper which can be impregnated with deodorant or not as desired and which can be worn disposed flexibly and comfortably in a dress or other garment beneath the wearers arm without irritation.

Still further, the present invention proposes construcing the dress shield with an adhesive tacky portion along and adjacent its bend line for removably sticking the shield to a dress or other garment.

Another object of the present invention proposes forming the shield with a center portion having a central opening and providing an adhesive tape having a tacky side adhered to the shield and disposed in the opening with a removable and discardable cover strip over the tacky side of the tape disposed in the opening.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 is a pictorial view of a person wearing a garment having dress shields constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention.

The shield, in accordance with the first form of the present invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, is designated generally by the reference numeral 15.

Shield 15 has a saddle bag-shaped flexible absorbent and disposable sheet 16 with two faces 17 and 18 and with two flaps 19 and 20 which are separated by a center portion 21.

Center portion 21 forms the bend line 22 between the two flaps 19 and 20 and has a central opening 23 along the bend line 22 and adjacent thereto, the opening 23 being spaced from the side edges 24 and 25 of the center portion 21. Central opening 23 extends through the sheet 16.

Sheet 16 preferably is made of absorbent paper toweling material or like inexpensive absorbent discardable material. Sheet 16 may be impregnated with a deodorant if desired or only the flaps 19 and 20 may be so impregnated if desired. The sheet 16 may also be unimpregnated and stamped or cut or otherwise formed from soft absorbent paper or the like suitable for disposal or discarding after use.

An adhesive strip or tape 26 having a tacky side 27 is provided. The tacky side 27 is adhered to the face 18 of sheet 16 adjacent the central opening 23 and is disposed in the central opening 23, the strip or tape 26 covering the central opening 23.

A discardable protective covering strip 28 is disposed on the other face 17 of the absorbent sheet 16 and covers the central opening 23 on this face and the tacky side 27 of the adhesive strip 26 disposed in the central opening 23. The cover strip 28 may be of light muslin, crinoline or the like.

In use, the protective cover strip 28 is pulled from the sheet 16 and from the tacky side 27 of the adhesive strip or tape 26 to which it is adhered through the central opening 23. The exposed tacky surface 27 of the adhesive tape is then stuck to a dress or other garment to hold the shield in place. When the absorbent paper shield becomes soiled, it is discarded. The inexpensive construction permits economical discard of shields after each wearing if desired.

The modification of the present invention illustrated in Fig. 6 is characterized by a shield 30 of absorbent paper having a central opening 31 covered on one side by an adhesive strip 32 having one side 33 tacky and the other side 34 of absorbent paper. The tacky side 33 is disposed in the central opening 31 and is covered by a removable cover strip 35.

The modification of the present invention illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8 is characterized by the provision of a shield 40 having a saddle bag shape sheet 41 of flexible absorbent material such as paper toweling. Sheet 41 has flaps 42 and 43 separated by a center portion 44. The central portion 44 has tacky adhesive material 45 coating it on one face 46 of the shield 40. The other face 47 of the shield 40 is uncoated. A protective cover strip 48 removably covers the tacky adhesive coating 45 on the central portion 44 of the shield. When this cover strip 48 is removed, the shield is stuck to a dress or other garment by the tacky adhesive coating strip 45.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

A dress shield to protect dresses and other garments from underarm perspiration comprising a saddle bagshaped flexible absorbent and disposable sheet having two flaps and a center portion with a bend line therein, said center portion being disposed between the two flaps and having a central opening along the bend line, said sheet having two faces, an adhesive strip covering the central opening, said strip having a tacky side adhered to one face of the sheet adjacent the central opening and disposed in the central opening, and a discardable protective covering strip on the other face of the sheet over the central opening and the tacky side of the adhesive strip disposed in the central opening and held thereby.
