SEGMENTAL GRINDING WHEEL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention is concerned with a segmental grinding wheel, in particular an abrasive cut-off wheel, the supporting body of which on one edge of the circular or polygonal periphery thereof is provided with a radially extending flange for aligning the segments forming an abrasive ring and a clamping ring coinciding with the flange, the clamping ring being secured to the flange by means of screws and each abrasive segment being form-closedly locked in radial direction.
The actual supporting body, the holding plates of the segments and the clamping ring are held together and locked by means of screws, pins or the like.
In the known examples of wheels of this type the actual power transmission from the segments to the supporting body is effected through the connecting screws. As a consequence, the number of screws to be used depends on the forces which act thereupon.
However, for reasons of assembly, the number of screws should be restricted to a minimum.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore the object of the present invention to create a supporting body adaptable to directly receive the radial forces acting upon the segments, which forces are due to centrifugal force.
This object is attained according to the invention in that between the offset of the supporting body on the lower end of the flange and the clamping ring there is provided an interstice which in top plan view is circular-ring shaped, that each segment, as known per se, is secured to the supporting body by means of a holding plate and that on the free end of each holding plate there is provided a projection extending in the direction of the axis of the grinding wheel, which projection passes within the interstice. While the forces resulting from centrifugal force are received by the clamping ring, the opposed forces as well as the clamping pressure are received by the screws, as in the known types of wheels, or preferably, as shown in the following examples, by the peripheral border of the supporting body itself.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a segmental cut-off wheel with a supporting body according to the invention,
FIG. 2 is a section along line 1-1 of FIG. 1 and FIGS. 3 and 4 are sections of further examples of the holding plates.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Supporting body 1, on one edge of the periphery thereof, is provided with a flange 25. Clamping ring 23 coincides with flange 25, but is narrower than the latter. That is to say, the outer periphery or ring 23 equals that of flange 25, while the inner annular surface 26 thereof is spaced from lower annular surface 27 of supporting body I of interstice A.
As illustrated in the drawings, projections 28 may be produced by welding a flange on to the holding plates (FIG. 2) or by bending the lower border thereof FIGS. 3 and 4). It may, however, be readily understood that other constructions are also possible.
In the arrangement according to the invention the number of screws 11 need be chosen only in view ofthe fixation of clamping ring 23, it being, however, advantageous if there is provided one screw 11 per segment 2 to prevent a shifting of segments 2 under the action of tangential forces during use of the grinding wheel.
