Description
'UNITED STAT S Patented May 31, 1904.
EDWIN O." PRESBY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 761,605, dated May 31, 1904.
' Application filed. February 16,1904. Serial No. 193,343. (No model.)
Total] whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN O. PRESBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others .skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in garment-supports.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple,effective, and inexpensive combination undergarment-support and one that can be readily applied to trousers and as to which there is no danger of its becoming loose same, showing the trousers in section; and
Fig. 5 is a back view ofa modified form.
60 represents a small metal plate of about the sizeof an ordinary button. It is provided with an extension t on its lower edge, which is perforated to receive the end 0 of a hook d, preferably made of spring-wire and adapted to close upon itself. The disk a may be pro- Vided with a single hole 0, as shown in Fig. 3, or a plurality ofholes f, as shown in Fig. 2. This disk may be fiat, as shown in Fig. 2, or concaved, as shown in Fig. 5;
9 represents a portion of the trousers, and it represents a portion of the undergarment provided with the usual loop 2'.
1' represents the ends of the ordinary suspenders, and 7c the ordinary Suspender-button. In attaching my improved device to the trousers the plate a is placed on the inside of the trousers, and this plate and the button are secured to said trousers by sewing through the holes f. In case, however, machine-made shank-buttons are used, instead of a plurality of holes f I use a single hole 0, through which the shank of the button is passed. The loop 6 is then brought up over and dropped into the portion 03 of the spring-wire, which closes and holds the undergarment in the proper position.
The spring-wire d is pivotally supported on the disk 0 sothat it may move freely over to one side or the other, or even back and forth if desired, so that it will automatically adjust itself to' meet varying conditions, while preventing the loop c' from being disengaged therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, what In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN O. PRESBY.
