Specification of Letters Patent.

To aZZ whom, it may concern Be it known that I, EMIL FRANKE, a citizenof the United States, residing at Astoria, Long Island, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Polishing Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to polishing and scraping devices such as are intended particularly for removing rust and discolorations from cutlery, as well as for scraping pots, pans, and other cooking utensils.

The objects of the invention are to improve and simplify the construction of such devices; furthermore, to increase their eflicicncy in operation and to decrease the expense attending their manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects inview, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment thereof.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a polishing and scraping tool constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view taken at a right angle to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the improved device. Fig. 4 is abottom plan view.

Like reference-numerals indicate corres onding parts in the different figures of the rawings.

The reference-numeral 1 indicates a handle which preferably is constructed of wood and is enlarged annularly at its ends and central portion, as shown. At its upper end the handle 1 is formed with an integral tubular extension 2, which is surrounded by a cap 3 constructed of soft polishing materialsuch, for example, as felt. At its upper end the cap 3 is countersunk or depressed, as indicated at 4., to receive the head of a screw 5,

which extends through the cap 3 into the tubular extension 2, so as to hold said cap securely in position. By reason of the fact that the upper end of the screw 5 is countersunk in the manner described all liability of said screw coming in contact with the article which is being polished and thus scratching the same is avoided.

Driven into the lower end of the handle 1 is the tang 6 of a scraping-blade 7, which is 5 5 formed with one slightly-curved side 8 and an acutely-curved side 9 as well as a tapered or sharpened lower edge 10.

It is found in practice that a blade shaped in the manner described and shown is exceedingly effective in scraping pots, pans, and the like.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is A device of the character described oomagainst said seat portion and formed at its inner end with a socket receiving said extension, said body being further formed with a countersink at its outer end and a passage leading therefrom and communicating with said socket, and a securing-screw having its head seated in said countersink and its shank projecting through said passage with its inner screw-threaded end engaging the threaded socket in the tubular extension andholding the parts in assembled relation? n testimony whereof I have affixed my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
